Merlin

We signed up with Merlin as a new independent start-up practice in 2025, and the experience has been excellent. Choosing Merlin gave us the reassurance of having a single, integrated model for our business, which made the entire setup process as stress-free as possible. Having everything feed seamlessly into the PMS from wholesale was a major advantage. The support and system demonstrations were extremely helpful, and the consultant who assisted us in building the system to suit our needs was outstanding - and continues to be so. The system offers a great range of features, from simple yet effective colour coding and an intuitive diary page to more advanced and powerful reporting capabilities. Stock management is particularly comprehensive while still being easy to use, and the built-in reporting is fantastic. The ability to schedule reports to run automatically at set intervals is exceptionally helpful, as it acts as a prompt for regular reviews. Having used several different PMS platforms in the past, I find Merlin to be straightforward, highly intuitive, and very user-friendly. While, as with any system, there are occasional process challenges, the workarounds are easy to implement, and the support from the team is second to none. The in-system help function is also excellent - clear, easy to follow, and full of useful troubleshooting steps. If the answer isn’t there, the helpdesk is extremely responsive and proactive in creating solutions.

I have used a wide range of PMSs as a vet over 20 years of practicing, Merlin was always the most user friendly and feature rich solution. That is why, when I opened my own clinic I opted for it.

I had been using Merlin (previously Jupiter and Voyager) for over 15 years in the same clinic. What I’d always valued most is how intuitive it is. If you take the time to set it up properly, it becomes an incredibly powerful tool. Having all of our document templates saved on the system meant patient details could be merged in automatically , making documents consistent and personalised. The dispensing functionality in particular makes a real difference in day-to-day practice. Pre-loaded directions made dispensing quick and accurate, removing unnecessary admin time. The move to cloud-based Merlin was a game changer. Being able to log in remotely, work from home when needed and even print labels directly back at the clinic gave us real flexibility without compromising efficiency. A well-designed and personalised PMS genuinely makes consultations smoother and more efficient. When the system supports your workflow rather than slowing you down, you can focus on patient care instead of navigating screens. There’s nothing more frustrating than being held back by a clunky system, and Merlin has always felt streamlined and reliable. Having worked with several other systems while locuming, I can honestly say nothing has matched Merlin for functionality, usability and support. As I prepare to open my own independent clinic, choosing a PMS was one of the easiest decisions I’ve had to make. I’m genuinely excited to be building my practice with Merlin at its core. If you want a system that works with you rather than against you, it’s Merlin all day long!

we have used Merlin in it's many guises for 15 years now, apart from a brief spell away when we tried another PMS for 2 years., suffice to say the grass was not greener and we moved back to Merlin again. Merlin is east for staff to use and navigate with core functions of the client and vet pathway being quick and functional to use. From my point of view in the back end the reporting wizard is powerful and allows us to extract any data we need easily, and move across to CSV and excel to allow mailings or data analysis. The standard reports provided by the system are extensive and useful too. Cloud access is seamless and useful for when on call. Integrations with a payments terminal allows us to do pay by link to clients by email and SMS, and we use the digital hospital system VetCheck which allows digital consent forms, anaesthetic charts and hospital charts. Merlin is a great solid software that is extremely reliable and we are very happy with it.
